Is Canine Medicine
Ready for Stem Cell Therapy (Cytothereapeutics)? Panel
Question: what about alternative medicines to help with cancer tumors?
Modiano: Socrates died drinking herbs… need to be careful with internet remedies
Question: What is the status of “cancer vaccines”?? And what about spontaneous remission?
Velliet: when we figure out why stem cells can regenerate, then we will be able to figure out why cancer stem cells do not regenerate into healthy cells.
Modiano: agrees with Velliet. Why do some dogs take to these treatments to well, and why some don’t? Need to research this at the stem cell level in order to be able to have better success with cancer treatments/cures.
Question: There are many different technologies being discussed. Where do we focus our donation dollars?
Oyama: They are different, yet they are all complimentary and therefore will build upon each other. Cell research is key right now, however genetics (therapy) will be able to evolve from cell research.
Velliet: Since cells are regenerated often (they do not live your whole life), so the can chronically degenerate. So this needs to be studied. It is a very hard question to answer.
Modiano: please make sure, when you send in samples, to check the box that your sample can be shared with other schools and research facilities. And, if you have questions, please email or call us.
